iWitness brings you first-hand accounts of key incidents in rock and pop music history in the words of the artists themselves – some of the biggest acts in the world - and by other eye-witnesses who were there at the time.

Compiled by renowned music writer Johnny Black, (Mojo, Q, Smash Hits, The Times), these reports give you an insight into how artists made some of their most successful albums, toured round the world, or started their career, with the stories behind how these events unfolded.

Kurt Cobain talks about the formation of Nirvana, The Clash tell us tales from their first ever American tour, Eric Clapton talks about his times with Cream, Deep Purple describe recording the classic Smoke On The Water and the events leading up to it. Sir George Martin lets us in on the events of The Beatles recording their 1967 No.1 landmark recording All You Need Is Love.

Other accounts include Jimmy Page and Robert Plant on the making of Led Zeppelin IV, The Eagles on Hotel California, the Brit-pop battle between Oasis ands Blur and an in-depth account following the events that surrounded U2’s very first tour of the UK, as told by Bono and the team involved in breaking the new Irish band.

iWitness also contains an exclusive video commentary from film director Nigel Dick, with the story of how he was given the task of documenting the now historic event that was Band Aid – on a budget of precisely nothing.

Other iWitness reports in the App include:

Elvis Presley cutting his first record.

Pink Floyd playing their historic show in Venice.

Frankie Goes To Hollywood on the making of Relax.

Fleetwood Mac recording Rumours.

Crosby, Stills & Nash and the birth of the group, and

CBGB’s, the rise and fall of the most famous club in the world.

iWitness also shows you the exact location of each event using Google maps.

The App also links each report to iTunes so you can hear and investigate each artist further.
